Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad today at a special event in San Francisco. The new iPad defines Apple’s vision of “what’s next.” At just 1.5 lbs and with a 9.7 inch screen, iPad will take share from the hot netbook and e-book reader market. Yet iPad won’t stop there, it may also invade the game player space and grab share from Nintendo and Sony. iPad runs the iPhone OS and will run all current iPhone applications. With its own SDK, there are many new opportunities for developers. The iPad has a large on-screen keyboard and it comes with an optional external keyboard dock. iPad will also be highly affordable. Pricing Starts at $499 for a 16GB WiFi-only iPad and moves up to $829 for a 64GB iPad with WiFi + 3G. I suspect most will be quite content with WiFi alone, and at under $700 for 64GB, Apple should sell many millions of iPads. Here is a short video clip of Steve Jobs’ intro of iPad.
