Apple institutes new iPhone anti-jailbreaking measures »

Thanks to a 9to5Mac article today. peer–to-peer WFi is once again a hot topic. In February 2008, we published a post on femtocells and WiFi. A coupe of paragraphs in this post focused on peer-to-peer WiFi and included a Youtube video with Martin Varsavsky, CEO of Fon. Spanish-based Fon produces a femtocell device that delivers a WiFi signal that can be shared with other Fon subscribers in the vicinity. This is especially handy for Fon users who happen to be “out and about” with a mobile device (laptop, netbook, mobile phone). What’s cool about Fon is the potential for blanket WiFi coverage. The key is building a critical mass of subscribers, otherwise coverage for those on the go is too spotty.

Fon peer-to-peer WiFi has succeeded, but only in a limited number of cities/regions in Europe. Perhaps Apple can pick up the ball and run with this idea?
