TOKYO (Dow Jones)–Softbank Corp. (9984.TO) said Thursday its net profit for the July-September quarter nearly doubled from a year earlier, thanks mainly to the popularity of the iPhone, which helped eliminate cumulative losses carried for the past seven years.

    Dear Dan,
    Softbank said profit increased even as sales held steady because of falling costs as its mobile operations became a bigger part of its overall business. Softbank paid less to access the networks of other carriers and its per-unit costs for phones dropped as overall shipments increased.

    Please show me the iPhone effect… :-)
