I had a bit of fun at my friend’s expense this Christmas. We were having a discussion over the merits of iPhone. He’s a PC user and someone finally had to give him his first iPod. He is grudgingly beginning to understand the value of an iPhone, yet he “can’t use a virtual keyboard” … or so he claims (it’s easy by the way).
Unbeknownst to him, I launched the Dragon Dictation app on my iPhone and hit record. I then asked him why he had a problem with iPhone. He rambled on about why he can’t type on a touch screen and this was a non-starter as he sends many texts and e-mails. I then hit the stop-record button, moved my iPhone in front of his face, and showed him that virtually every word he uttered was now neatly converted into text and ready for transmission to either:
- an email
- a text message
- or copied to the clipboard for use in a document or website
ME: “How cool is that!?”
His eyes widened and his jaw dropped
HIM: “Wow! How much does that app cost?” …
ME: “It’s free”
Getting a Troglodyte PC user to buy an iPhone is no easy task, but I’m making progress
