Update: (Fake) Steve Jobs has now jumped on the Erin Burnett Apple hatefest story
December 15, 2009: CNBC’s designated Apple () masher, Erin Burnett, is at it again. The snide business show anchor loves to hate Apple and she took another shot at iPhone during today’s broadcast. Burnett dredges up an old (August 2008) Nielsen IAG report which blames the iPhone chipset for call quality issues. This report was pumped in the summer of 2008 by Nielsen VP Roger Entner (read > Randall Stross attacks the iPhone in the NYT using shills). Apple long ago provided a software update that addressed the iPhone 3G issue and in 2009 launched the iPhone 3GS. Yet someone whispered into Erin’s eager ear and suddenly the old and now moot Neilsen IAG report is news once again (see video below):
More Apple () love from Erin Burnett …
October 19, 2009: This morning I switched on CNBC to the following exchange between commentators:
- Mark Haines & Erin Burnett
Mark Hanies: “Is there a ‘core’ problem with Apple (AAPL)?”
Erin Burnett: “Rotten!” (haha)
As a side note, CNBC’s Erin Burnett loves her Blackberry phone and never misses a chance to dis iPhone. She is also famous for her potty mouth. In January 2008 Burnett quipped before the cameras; ”Apple (AAPL) was the It Stock of ’07, and it is apparently the sh*t stock of 2008.”
Scatological remarks aside, the real harm is done when lazy journalists spread chum for harpoon wielding hedge funds and rogue traders. Unwittingly or not, CNBC commentators are tossing bloody FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) into the waters. More > Apple Q4 Earnings due today – Don’t get punked by harpoon throwers!
And while I’m at it … Erin’s perspicacity is not limited to Apple, she also defends her Street pals in the wake of the 2008 financial meltdown. Hey, without rich/powerful friends, where is Burnett going to come up with her keen insight and analysis (otherwise known as “talking points” spoon fed by Street tipsters who frequently “talk their own book” — long or short stocks/options)?
February 2, 2009: Listen below as Ms Burnett acts as an apologist for many of Wall Streets’ worst practices. As the Huffington Post aptly opines:
This Sunday’s (Feb 2, 2009) Meet The Press made something absolutely clear: Journalists who are “embedded” on Wall Street and depend on Wall Street execs for access on a day-to-day basis are ridiculously unqualified to give the public good information about the economic crisis.
(Meet the Press Feb 2009):
This woman is a complete idiot. Churning BS all through her rant – she talks about traveling to 18 countries while using AT&T and having no issues. DUH !!!! When you are traveling outside the country, AT&T isn’t providing the service! The local carrier is. How ridiculous and just plain stupid. Further, she fails to state that the data usage on AT&T, overwhelmingly from the iPhone, has gone up between 4,000 – 5,000% !!!!!!! Something that was not expected or planned for. She also fails to realize or acknowledge that Verizon will not be able to handle this kind of increase any better than AT&T!!!!! How moronic!
