Technical difficulties rain on China Mobile’s official app store launch

Interfax TMT in China is reporting that China Mobile’s new app store – Mobile Market – is off to a bumpy start. According to Interfax’s report (headline above), “technical issues cast a shadow over the official launch of China Mobile’s online application store, Mobile Market” … the site “still remains inaccessible to customers, a company employee confirmed to Interfax on Aug. 19.”
iPhonAsia Twitter ninjas report that the WAP browser version of Mobile Market is running, but the full browser version remains down. It was reported that Mobile Market would launch with some 6,000 apps/games for mobile customers. Mobile Market will theoretically support multiple handset operating systems (e.g. WinMobile, Symbian) including China Mobile’s own modified Android-based mobile operating system dubbed OMS (Open Mobile System). OMS is customized by China Mobile to support their own value-added services platform. Sorry Roger, Palm’s OS will not be among the supported operating systems.
